As I always tell my clients, the best choice when it comes to nutrition is real food. Unfortunately, in the hustle and bustle of the world we find ourselves in, there are those moments where eating a meal just isn’t possible. Well, rather than forgoing a meal, why not blend yourself a meal that consists of everything you would find on a balanced plate. Protein, Fat and Carbohydrates.
This smoothie is a favorite of mine- not only is it delicious but it is loaded with spices. Spices not only make our food taste delicious but they are incredibly beneficial to our health!
Cinnamon- the spice I always throw in first is loaded with antioxidants- which helps to protect the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Cinnamon can also help with insulin resistance, helping to reduce blood sugar levels and also can help heal inflammation.
Cardamom- the newest addition to my smoothies can help with depression, assist in lowering cholesterol and protects against gastrointestinal diseases.
Nutmeg- this spice reminds me of the holidays… Nutmeg is an incredible spice. It can relieve pain, soothe indigestion, strengthen cognitive function, assist in skin health, reduce insomnia, boost immunity and improve blood circulation.
Clove- This spice can be kind of strong- but very good. Just use sparingly. Clove can help with toothaches, protect the liver, control diabetes and help with headaches.
When making this smoothie- you can add or subtract spices as desired. There is no right or wrong way to make it!
